Children's Garden

Mark Your Calendar! StoryTime in Lakes Park is returning to the Children’s Garden on Thursday, October 3rd from 10:30 to 11:30. The Lakes Park Children’s Library Staff are inviting you to sing some songs, do a simple craft and listen to some favorite stories. Contact Info@LakesPark.org with any questions you may have!

Please help us help Cooper the Caterpillar! He has a body that needs to grow!
Please drop off any painted rocks in the Children’s Garden to share.
It doesn’t have to be fancy.
He just needs color and love!
Thank you!!

Community Garden

Plant Day is coming!
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC IN THE COMMUNITY GARDEN
(not in the parking lot)

Our plants are getting bigger and almost ready for sale. October 5th is the big plant sale. For the measly price of $2 per plant, you can fill your bed with healthy vegetable plants. The sale begins at 9 a.m. and ends at around noon. There are Cherry and Delicious tomatoes, two kinds of kale, cauliflower, broccoli, mustard and collard leaves, bell and jalapeno peppers, white and black eggplant, garlic chives, and Swiss chard. All sales need to be in cash and exact change is very appreciated. All proceeds go back to the garden and Lakes Park. Dirt will be delivered before the plant sale, so it's a great time to begin your garden.

Greetings Gardeners,

The time to renew your bed is coming to a close. Sept. 30 is the last day to have your renewal paid for. On October 1st, an email will go out to people on our waiting list to sign up for a new bed. Reminders have gone out several times. If you know someone who is not getting these reminders or is struggling to renew, please let us know. You can email conniespeck@lakespark.org to get help.

Hurricane season is not over and it looks like it's about to get worse.

Please secure items in your bed so they cannot become flying objects. The Steering Committee is taking care of the Community Garden. Gardeners are reminded to weed the 6-inch border around their beds. Beds should be weeded, maintained, and free of objects that can be projectiles in severe weather. Calls will be placed to those who are not in compliance. Tomato cages that aren't secured in beds will be moved to our community pile.

Tomato cages cannot be left in beds without being secured in some way.
Also, beds must be maintained so weeds do not spread to other beds. Please take care and weed.

We are happy to announce that our sweet potato harvest is a huge success, and we set a new record! Gardener Dave dug up most of the potatoes and Betsy gathered and weighed them. This year we are donating 202 pounds of sweet potatoes to the Community Cooperative Food Bank. Thanks to all of the gardeners who donated their beds this summer so potatoes could be planted.

All the work done is by volunteers. We appreciate our gardeners. You can help too by volunteering in the garden. It's a great way to get a free parking pass and make new friends.
Happy gardening! I hope to see you at the plant sale on October 5th.
