A Message From The President
Boy were we spoiled with the beautiful cooler weather we had in the last months. But that all ended a few weeks ago and now it looks like Summer is here to stay! So if you are staying around for the Summer start planning your family outings and make sure Lakes Park is on the list.
If you are getting this Newsletter you are already a fan of Lakes Park but are you aware of all there is to do at Lakes? Reserve a shelter for a family picnic, have a cookout, rent some bikes and tour around the five miles of trails. Rent a paddleboat or a kayak. Have an ice cream and take a walk through the gardens. Go fishing. Enjoy the playgrounds. Take a ride on the train. As you walk through the park get in a workout on one of our exercise stations.
The beauty of all this is that the cost is minimal to enjoy nature! Buy yourself a parking pass for your car which costs only $60 and is good for a year and can also be used at many other Lee County Parks, Beaches and Boat Ramps.
Go online to leegov.com to get your pass and get to know some of our other fabulous parks like Six Mile Slough Preserve, Manatee Park, JY Linear Park, Bunche Beach and many more.
And as always keep up with our news by checking our our website at Lakespark.org and all our social sites
Thanks for your support

GARDEN NEWS
Children's Garden
Story Time will resume in October 2024
We all had a great time!
Thank you to everyone who participated and volunteered.
Community Garden
The Community Garden folks wrapped up its winter/spring season with beautiful beds! We will be sending out plant bed renewals after the summer heat. Thanks to everyone for keeping their beds beautiful and well-maintained.
The Community Cooperative has made a massive contribution, donating over 775 pounds of produce and goods! A huge shout-out to all of our fantastic gardeners for their incredibly generous contributions. Betsy is thrilled and sends out a big thank you!
Thank you to the gardeners who have allowed us to plant sweet potatoes over the summer months with Gardener Dave planting, tending and harvesting them in the fall. The sweet potatoes will be donated to the Community Cooperative.
Summer Planting Tip:
Some vegetables that grow well in the summer heat include peppers, eggplant, sweet potatoes, okra, cherry tomatoes, herbs, black-eyed peas, and celery. Okra is a popular vegetable in Southern cuisine that grows well in Florida's long, warm summers.

Lakes Park Splash Pads Update
Our Splash Pads were severely damaged by the hurricane and unfortunately must be completely demolished and replaced. We are currently in the procurement process to find a vendor for replacement. Once that is completed, we will have a better estimate as to when they will be finished.
Check back to our page www.leeparks.org/Lakespark for updates. We also have a splash pad at Veterans Park in Lehigh Acres- https://www.leegov.com/parks/parks/ veterans. Or we have four community swimming pools to enjoy- https://www.leegov.com/parks/pools.
